I selected the topic of the Roman Empire because of how large and massive it was. It was such a large empire that the social pyramid had to have strict rights and responsibilities for the Empire to be successful in any way. Rome interested me because it has such a rich cultural history. Previously I had known that the emperor had a lot of power in Rome, but my knowledge was very limited. Rome was such a large part of World History and it had impacted so many lives I began to have an increasing interest in how it was really governed. I started to wonder how such a large empire survived with so many citizens and conquered people that it had to rule How did Rome manage its people and those it conquered? What was life like for the Romans who had little to no power? What was life like for those who had power?
To conduct my research, first I used the accelerated web search provided by my school. I was able to find a few different credible websites ( .org .Edu etc.). I also used the websites that my teacher had provided. I also went to my school library. There were books on the Roman Empire that fit my needs for information perfectly. I was able to get the information necessary to create my project. To determine a sources credibility, I looked for information that was similar to my other sources. I also viewed the author to see what their history in the subject was.
I selected my presentation by analyzing the different rules and regulations. I was able to determine that I would not be able to do a paper due to the header and footer rules that were in that category. I dislike acting so I knew the performance was not a good idea. I also don’t like to hear my voice on camera, so the documentary also was not the best choice for me. I chose the website because I could use color, multiple images, and I could use any writing style that I desired as long as I did not go over the word limit of 1,200.
My theme, The Roman Empires Society, relates to this year’s theme of rights and responsibilities, because the Roman Empire was so large, that it had to have a strict society in order to function. The different social classes had different rights and responsibilities, as well as different family members. The plebeians responsibilities were very different from the senates; but in the Empire one could not survive without the other. The senate needed an army to protect the country they managed, and the plebeians needed someone to be in charge. The different rights and responsibilities of the Roman Empires social classes helped it be the great empire it was.
